Bee Pollen Information : General use questions and answers

I see a lot about ‘whole food’ supplements. How does NatureBee compare to these new type of supplements and how do they compare to other supplements? How can bee pollen offer so many vitamins, minerals and enzymes? It seems overstated.

Bee pollen is a ‘whole food’ supplement. It is nature’s perfect food because bees instinctively search for the best pollen available, and each teaspoon of bee pollen contains over 2.5 million grains of life-giving plant pollen. Plant pollen comes from the male stamen of all flowering plants and is the genesis of most seed-producing life. Pollen is how these plants distribute their DNA to form seeds and reproduce. It is the genesis of this plant life because it enables every vascular plant on Earth to reproduce. It is a potent storehouse of nutritional compounds.

40% protein, at least 18 amino acids, more than 27 vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes/co-enzymes, 24 beneficial fatty acids, and 11 carbohydrates

NatureBee ‘Potentiated’ Bee Pollen is 100% bee collected, open cell wall, plant pollen nutrients. No added sugar, no artificial colouring, no preservatives, and no gluten. Never heated, NatureBee is fresh raw power and simply a vegetable food in a capsule.

What’s the historical background of bee pollen? How is today’s bee pollen different than bee pollen 6,000 years ago?

It’s not – in fact, bee pollen was entombed with the Egyptian pharaohs, and historical accounts of bee pollen consumption have been found among cultures around the world.

Many indigenous cultures used bee pollen in their daily nutrition and as a survival food because of the high amount of powerful nutrition available in a small volume. Māori, indigenous New Zealanders, pounded bee pollen into cakes that were dried and packed to be used on long journeys and to supplement the diet.

Over centuries, bee pollen’s full-spectrum nutrition has been revered. Hippocrates, often called the “the father of medicine”, refers to bee pollen, and it has long been known as a health food that supports immunity and overall health and wellbeing.

How can bee pollen help with weight management?

Many who struggle with weight management may actually be experiencing nutritional deficiencies. Nutritional balance can be restored by eating a balanced diet, including a whole food supplement such as bee pollen, and establishing a regular exercise routine.

Is there a beauty benefit available from bee pollen?

For centuries, bee pollen has been credited with helping with beautiful skin and internal and external rejuvenation. Dull skin can be a sign of trapped toxins and poor nutrition. Our customers tell us taking NatureBee Power Pollen improves brittle hair and nails, and that it gives them radiant, beautiful skin and a healthy glow.

Can I use NatureBee with other medications, supplements or vitamins?

As always, check with your GP before using any supplements. NatureBee ‘Potentiated’ Bee Pollen is “food” in a capsule, not a drug or medicine. Our customers often find they no longer need many of the other supplements and vitamins they have been taking, saving them time and money.

If I am a Vegetarian or a Vegan can I use NatureBee's Power Pollen capsules?

Our Pollen capsule outer is made of Bovine. Many of our Vegetarian and Vegan customers choose to open up their capsules and sprinkle their pollen on cereal or in shakes. The Pollen capsules are easy to pull apart.

I want to use bee pollen in recipes. How can I use NatureBee in my foods?

NatureBee ‘Potentiated’ Bee Pollen is fresh, wild, multi-floral plant pollen gathered by bees. Bee pollen is a raw food, and the nutrients it contains are destroyed at high heats. The best way to enjoy the benefits of pollen in food is to sprinkle it into smoothies, protein shakes, on salads, homemade ice creams, cold soups, and more – simply open NatureBee capsules and sprinkle!

What is the appropriate usage / how many should I be taking daily?

Always check with your medical practitioner before supplementing your own  diet.

The recommended daily usage for adults is 2-4 capsules a day, taken orally with or without food. Customers are advised to always read the label and use the product only as directed.

NatureBee has coined the term “Potentiated Pollen”. How do you make bee pollen more potent? Do you use heat during the process?

We call it ‘Potentiated Pollen’ because the process makes it even more potent for humans to digest. We take fresh, multi-floral, wild, raw, 100% bee pollen and break open its hard cell walls using a proprietary process that’s similar to the way you would open a walnut to get to its delicious, healthy contents. The potentiation process opens and releases the contents of each pollen granule, making it more digestible and bio-available. No heat is used, so each NatureBee Power Pollen capsule contains raw vegetable food for optimum complementation to your nutrition.

How can NatureBee compare to supplements developed in a lab and manufactured in a factory?

Isolated vitamin and mineral supplements have synthetic chemical structure that cannot be recognized as ‘food’ and  cannot be compared to bee pollen which is a broad spectrum whole raw food.

Why am I paying more for my Power Pollen:

The price of bee pollen is increasing worldwide due to pandemic-related stress on the supply chain, increased global demand for beehive products, and changing weather patterns that are affecting agricultural production – all of which has necessitated a small price increase to our power pollen capsules.

Health related questions and answers

I have asthma. Can I use bee pollen?

You may be able to use bee pollen, but check with your GP first, particularly if your asthma is serious. NatureBee Potentiated Bee Pollen is ingested (in capsules) and is not airborne or inhaled. Therefore, for most asthmatics it should not be a problem. For some it can produce mild asthmatic symptoms when the trigger factors include pollens. If approved by a doctor, we suggest starting with one capsule a day over a week to assess if the symptoms of a tight chest and wheezing appear. If not, consider increasing to a normal dose of two capsules a day.

Can I take bee pollen if I have Diabetes?

It is important to note that NatureBee Power Pollen is a super food product, meaning they are supplementary to and not a replacement for a balanced diet.

According to Healthline, Bee pollen is loaded with a wide variety of antioxidants, among them flavonoids, carotenoids, quercetin, kaempferol and glutathione (5Trusted Source).

Antioxidants protect your body against potentially harmful molecules called free radicals. Damage by free radicals is linked to chronic diseases such as cancer and type 2 diabetes.

Our products are 100% natural, but we do recommend that anyone who has health concerns consult with their GP before using it.

Can NatureBee be taken during pregnancy?

Many women take supplements including bee pollen during pregnancy, but please check with your health professional before supplementing your diet.

I have an allergy to bee stings! Can I use bee pollen?

You may be able to use bee pollen, but check with your health care professional first. The bee pollen we supply has not been inside the beehive. It is collected at the entrance to the hive. It is pure, raw 100% plant pollen. It is not known to affect those with reactions to bee stings, or to other bee products like bee venom in crèmes and rubs.

I have seasonal allergies. Can NatureBee help?

You may be able to use bee pollen, but check with your health care professional first.

Can you still take NatureBee if you have been diagnosed with Haemochromatosis?

We’ve consulted our Chief Scientist at NatureBee on this one. Since plants (bee pollen included) contain non-haem form of iron, consumption of bee pollen should only improve wellness, and will not make a contribution to the body’s overall iron uptake. Whether or not you are following a low dietary iron intake food plan, consumption of bee pollen will not contribute significantly to dietary iron intake or absorption, but will still provide micronutrients such as the B vitamin family and also antioxidants, which are essential for your overall well-being.

As with any supplement, we recommend for any medical conditions you check with your health practitioner before starting a regime.

Exercise and performance questions and answers

I am training for a half marathon. What is the history of bee pollen use for training and with athletes?

Bee pollen has been used for thousands of years as a tonic and a supplement with healing properties. Ancient Greeks took pollen to enhance their performance during the first Olympic games. The Aztecs kept pollen in vials around their necks to help increase their stamina. The extensive range of nutrients in bee pollen can help support every cell in your body, and that boost to your health can have an ongoing effect. When you’re healthy, you feel more like exercising. The more you exercise, the better your cardiovascular health can be, and the faster you can recover from vigorous activity.

Our potentiation process increases the bioavailability of pollen and its nutrients by opening the hard cell walls and releasing the nutrients into your body faster. It makes good sense to incorporate NatureBee into fitness plans, workout plans and training regimens to increase overall performance.

Whether you want to run a marathon or just around the block, or simply keep up with the kids, NatureBee Potentiated Bee Pollen is a great natural way to help you achieve your health goals.

I am not seeing any difference in my health from taking Power Pollen?

It is important to note that NatureBee Power Pollen is a super food product, meaning they are supplementary to and not a replacement for a balanced diet. Our products are 100% natural, but we do recommend that anyone who has health concerns consult with their GP before using it, and anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or who has a medical condition is strongly advised to talk to their GP before using our products.

Why does my product say it’s made in China?

Customers in Australia will see ‘product of China’ on the label; this is due to New Zealand-sourced pollen being short in supply and used to serve the New Zealand market, while the pollen sourced from Northern China is used in our products elsewhere. Our Australian-marketed products contain high quality bee pollen which is sourced predominantly on the Liaodong Peninsula in the northern part of China.

Bee pollen is subject to irradiation by Australian biosecurity regulations. The irradiation of food has been extensively studied and has been found to have no harmful effects on humans.

For New Zealand and United States customers, all bee pollen is sourced in New Zealand and the products are manufactured locally.

Regardless of origin, all our pollen meets the high New Zealand food and safety regulatory standards administered by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). The imported pollen is tested for heavy metals and pesticides by an independent laboratory to assure quality. The pollen we use from both New Zealand and China contains the same core natural nutrients, providing the same benefits to all consumers.

International Shipping

NatureBee currently offer shipping to the following countries only: New Zealand, Australia, USA and Canada.

Why is there a difference in the labelling of where the product is packaged?

Australian customers buying from a third party (e.g. an Australian retailer, either in-store or via that retailer’s website) the products are encapsulated and packaged in Australia using pollen sourced from China. The label will state “product of China packaged in Australia” and state excipient values.

For Australian customers buying directly from NatureBee (e.g. via the NatureBee website), these products are distributed from New Zealand. The label will state ‘product of China, packaged in New Zealand’.

Customers purchasing our products from New Zealand or the United States will receive products directly from NatureBee, and the label will state ‘product of New Zealand’.

How long does it take to receive my order?

Worldwide freight delays

As you will all be aware, airline capacity has been greatly reduced across all flight lanes domestically and internationally.

  • Australian delivery time: 5 to 10 working days

PowerBee Information : General use questions and answers

Can I lose weight on PowerBee?

PowerBee protein shake can play a role in weight management or a weight loss program.

Replacing 1 meal a day (suggest breakfast or lunch) with a powerbee shake will provide all the essential nutrients one would expect from a meal without the calories. The high-quality protein content and low sugar and fat content combined with dietary fibre and other micronutrients helps you feel fuller for longer and can aid in weight loss by reducing overall calorie intake.

It is important to note that while protein shakes can be a convenient and effective part of a weight loss plan, they should be combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise for optimal results.

Is PowerBee a shake product that supports fit and active people? If so, why?

PowerBee is designed to support fit and active people as it delivers multiple ingredients that work together to provide all of the necessary nutrients for muscle repair and maintaining optimal cardiovascular and immune health.

Highlights of the product are:
1. Delivers 2g of bioavailable bee pollen. Bee pollen in its own right is a nutrient rich whole food. It is a good source of various vitamins, including vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin C, and also the essential B vitamin complex, importantly B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12. It also contains a wide range of minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, selenium. Bee pollen is also rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids and other phytonutrients which help prevent oxidative damage. All of these are essential for metabolic health and replenishment.

2. Delivers 15g of quality whey protein which is rich in essential amino acids, particularly leucine, which is crucial for muscle protein synthesis. Consuming WPI after a workout can aid in muscle repair and growth. WPI also contains other proteins that support immune health such as lactoferrin.

3. Delivers a 4-strain probiotic blend especially aligned with gut health, along with fermentable dietary fibre to ensure they have a food source, which altogether helps ensure an optimal functioning microbiome. The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and well-being, and this is especially true for active and sports-oriented people. There are many ways a healthy microbiome contributes to optimal health.

a) Nutrient Absorption: A healthy gut microbiome aids in the digestion and absorption of nutrients from food, including carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. This is essential for providing the energy needed for physical activity and muscle repair and growth.

b) Immune Function: As around 70% of the body’s immune cells are associated with the gut, a balanced microbiome helps regulate overall immune function, which in turn reduces the risk of infections and illnesses that sometimes are increased in individuals partaking in regular sporting activities.

c) Regulation of exercise-induced inflammation: Exercise can lead to temporary inflammation in the body, which is a natural response to tissue repair and growth. However, chronic inflammation can

impair recovery and performance. A diverse and balanced gut microbiome helps regulate inflammation, promoting faster recovery and reducing the risk of chronic inflammation-related conditions.

4. Delivers algal Omega 3 and additional plant phytonutrients and anti-oxidants contained in green tea powder and cacao which all together supply a broad spectrum of antioxidants. By combining antioxidants from various sources, multi-species antioxidants can target different types of free radicals and provide synergistic effects, enhancing overall antioxidant activity and more sustained anti-oxidant defences. Active people require good levels of immune support to assist the body’s repair pathways are functioning optimally.

5. Delivers energy in the form of complex carbohydrates from oat flour which provide a low glycemic index (GI) form of energy. Low glycemic index foods are good for energy because they release glucose into the bloodstream at a slower and steadier rate compared to high GI foods. This gradual release helps maintain stable blood sugar levels over time, providing a sustained source of energy rather than a quick spike followed by a crash. Oats are also a source of many other micronutrients we require including dietary fibre, beta-glucans which support gut immune health as well as a range of vitamins and minerals such as manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, and B vitamins such as thiamine and folate. Oats also contain a group of antioxidants called avenanthramides, which have anti-inflammatory and heart-protective properties

Why do I see the bee pollen floating in my shake?

This doesn’t happen due to the thickness of the product. Might see in suspension white flecks of oat flour.

Is there caffeine in PowerBee?

There is only a small amount of caffeine which is naturally present in the green tea powder and the natural chocolate (approximately 15 – 20mg/serve of PowerBee). This is lower than the average amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee or a black tea (30-95mg/drink)

What are the 4 probiotics used in PowerBee for gut health?

Lactobacillus Acidophilous, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium Lactis, Bacillus Coagulans. These strains are used to improve digestive health, support the immune system, and alleviate symptoms of conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and lactose intolerance.

What is the recommended PowerBee intake?

1 shake a day is ideal as a supplement to daily eating or as a meal replacement if on the go

Is PowerBee shake a low calorie shake?

PowerBee made up in 250 ml water contains only 121 calories per serve. This would not be considered a high-calorie item compared to some other foods or drinks. If made up in 250 ml skim milk this would add an additional 83 calories, but also provide an additional 8g protein, as well as 30% RDI calcium and 25% RDI vitamin D.

Is the shake a suitable meal replacement product?

The shake serves as a suitable meal substitution option for those on the go providing a balanced blend of nutrients, however PowerBee doesn’t completely replace whole foods in your diet. Whole foods offer a wide range of nutrients and health benefits that may not be fully replicated in the shake.

Can I use PowerBee more than once a day?

PowerBee can be used more than once a day. However, it’s important to note that while PowerBee offers a convenient way to enhance your energy levels throughout the day, it should not be regarded as a substitute for proper meals. Instead, it should complement a balanced diet, ensuring that you still consume nutritious meals to meet your body’s full dietary requirements.

Is PowerBee suitable for people with celiac disease?

PowerBee contains 5 g/serve of oat flour which is included as a slow-release energy source. Celiac disease is triggered by the ingestion of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. Oat flour itself doesn’t contain gluten, but they’re often processed in facilities that also handle gluten containing grains. This means the oat flour can not be truly declared gluten free. The Food code for Australia and New Zealand does not permit oat flour to be labelled as gluten free due to this fact. However in the parts of the world oat flour can be labelled as gluten free and the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 41/2009 has included oats among permitted ingredients for celiacs if the gluten content does not exceed 20 ppm (mg/kg) – so a trace amount only.

Individuals with celiac disease should be aware of the potential for cross-contamination when consuming oat products. Our suggestion is to carefully consider this if PowerBee is a food product of interest.

What other ingredients can I add to the shake?

PowerBee shake can be complimented with other nutritious fortifying ingredients such as milk. Adding milk to a PowerBee shake can provide additional protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients. It can also enhance the creaminess and flavor of the shake. You can further fortify your shake by incorporating ingredients like Greek yogurt, nut butter, nuts, fruits, berries or even vegetables for added vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Is there sugar in PowerBee?

There are no added sugars in PowerBee. There is a small amount of sugar contained in the bee pollen which naturally contains the primary natural sugars found in many fruits and honey. These sugars provide energy to bees.

There is energy in the added oat flour but this is a complex carbohydrate source which provides a steady release of energy over time as it is broken down and absorbed by the body. This can help sustain energy levels and keep you feeling fuller for longer compared to simple carbohydrates,

What are the sweeteners used in PowerBee?

Thaumatin and Stevia are the two natural sweetners used in this product. Thaumatin is a protein derived from the katemfe fruit (Thaumatococcus daniellii), which is native to West Africa. Stevia, on the other hand, is derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant, native to South America. Both thaumatin and stevia are considered natural alternatives to traditional sugar and artificial sweeteners

Is the shake suitable for lactose intolerant people?

Lactose is naturally present in dairy products. PowerBee contains 15g/serve of whey protein isolate which is obtained from the whey fraction of milk. Whey protein isolate is generally well-tolerated by many people with lactose intolerance because it undergoes further processing to remove most of the lactose. This results in a purer protein product with around 1% lactose or less. In 15 grams of whey protein isolate, the amount of lactose would therefore be very minimal, probably less than 0.2 grams, and in many cases, it could be close to zero.

Try the product and see how your body reacts. If you don’t experience any adverse effects, it should be fine for you.

Do I need to continue with my Power Pollen?

PowerBee shake provides all the goodness from 2g pollen in a balanced food matrix which delivers a wider range of nutrients beyond pollen.

It really is personal preference how much pollen one wishes to consume in a day. Power pollen is always a great way to further boost intake of the essential vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants that we require throughout the day in a natural form. Power pollen capsules can be opened and sprinkled onto other daily foods to enhance their nutritional value. It is not possible to take too much pollen

What are the benefits of the ingredients?

Powerbee contains several natural ingredients providing a range of nutrients that support muscle repair and growth, immune support, brain and eye health, cardiovascular health, healthy gut function and support a healthy metabolism

Can I use a hand shaker mixer, or do I need a nutria bullet or blender to mix my shake?

A hand shaker will effectively mix all ingredients that are essentially liquids, such as milk and yogurt. A blending device becomes essential for achieving a homogenous mixture when solid ingredients such as fruits, vegetables or nuts are added. Blenders are designed to break down solid ingredients into smaller particles and distribute them evenly throughout the liquid base, resulting in a smooth and consistent texture and also ensures that all the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.

How is PowerBee different from other shakes in the market?

Powerbee is different from other shakes on the market in several ways. It is the only product which offers 2g/serve of bioavailable (potentiated) bee pollen, which in itself delivers a full range of micronutrients that are not present in any other single natural ingredient, including essential amino acids and all the vitamins and minerals required for cellular energy production.

This is combined with a decent serving of the highest quality of protein available (WPI) combined with natural sources of dietary fibre as well as a broad range of natural antioxidants obtained from plants and algae.

We also use premium cacao as a natural chocolate flavour instead of synthetic flavour which also delivers a unique set of compounds that have been linked to various health benefits such as improved mood and cardiovascular health.

The inclusion of 4 species of probiotics instead of the typical one or two species in other products a greater opportunity to promote the health of the gut microbiome. These are delivered along with fermentable dietary fibre which is the food for the microbiome.

Carbohydrate for energy is provided by oat flour instead of simple sugars found in many other products. Oats are wholefood source of energy which delivers not only sustainable energy but also is packed with additional beneficial nutrients such as vitamins and minerals and also dietary fibre.
